Explore the park on 20 miles of hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trails, play disc golf on the challenging 18-hole course, and sunbathe on the 700-foot swimming beach. Bedford Reservation offers an idyllic setting with plenty of activities for visitors to enjoy. Tinkers Creek Gorge and Bridal Veil Falls are among the attractions at the reservation, along with the Sagamore Loop Trail. In the Bedford Reservation, you'll find the All-Purpose Trail, a paved 5-mile trail ideal for jogging. It starts at the Egbert Picnic Area and runs until it ends at the Alexander Road parking lot. A hike through Bedford Reservation is the best experience if you're up for some off-trail activities. Fishing There are dozens of great fishing spots around Bedford, and one of them is Great Falls. The falls are also known as Gates Mills Falls and Great Falls of Tinkers Creek. This unique spot, located in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, is just a mile away from Bedford. Anglers have a good chance of catching fish here, whether by spinning, casting, trolling, fly fishing, or bait casting. If you still have time, you can make your way to Beachwood and walk along the west branch of the Chagrin River. A stream ecosystem such as the Chagrin River has several species of indigenous fish that you can hunt for. Fish can be caught along several paths that run along the river banks. The 18 holes of the golf course are divided into two nines. In addition to having rolling fairways and greens, the front nine has ponds and lakes, while the back nine features wooded holes with streams running through them. Boat Rides Portage Lakes State Park in Akron, OH, is a haven for boat lovers. There are eight lakes encompassing 2,034 acres. Limited horsepower is allowed on all lakes except on Nimisila Reservoir, where electric motors are allowed only. Hiking in northern Ohio, close to the edge of Lake Erie is always a magical experience, and the area near Burton, OH is no exception. There are plenty of hiking trails to explore, and the proximity of the village to the city of Cleveland means that locals can enjoy the wonderful Cleveland Metroparks system, which includes some of the best natural areas the state has to offer, without having to live in the city! more 1. Burton Wetlands State Nature Preserve – Kettle Trail Located a short distance to the southwest of Burton, the Burton Wetlands State Nature Preserve is a rare system of glacial ponds, forests, and wetlands that is widely recognized as one of the most important ecological areas in the county. The preserve is split into several sub-sections, with numerous miles of trails that snake their way through this unusual landscape. The Kettle Trail is a short three-mile loop located close to Lake Kelso, which is part of the wetland system, and a classic glacial kettle lake. The trail provides an amazing view of the lake and is perfect for observing the fascinating birdlife in the region. The trail is well maintained and fairly flat, making it a wonderful, easy hike. 2. South Chagrin Reservation Venturing into the Cleveland Metroparks System, South Chagrin Reservation is located along the Chagrin River to the east of Burton. The trails tend to be quite rugged but lead you through forests of hemlock, and past creeks, ravines, and imposing sandstone ledges. The extensive network of the trail makes choosing your distance and pace easy, with several longer trails such as the Bridle Trail and the Buckeye Trail continuing further along the river. 3. West Woods – Pioneer Bridle Trail This well-maintained loop, located close to the town of Novelty, OH, extends for approximately 4 miles through the West Woods Nature Centre, a historic park set up to protect the caves and ledges, as well as the mature area of forest and extensive wetlands that make this area so special. There is also a wildlife feeding area, so children can get to see the fantastic Ohio wildlife up close. The trail is also open to those with horses and crosses several creeks and streams along the way, but be aware that the trail can get very icy in winter. 4. Grand River Wildlife Area This haven for wildlife, situated on the grand river to the east of Burton, is a great place to take a hike and should be a must for any wildlife enthusiasts. There are several beaver impoundments in the area, and native otters were re-introduced into the area in the 1980s. There are now so many that they are no longer considered endangered! Trails run throughout the park, but they tend not to be well marked, so be careful not to get lost, and always bring a map and phone with you. There are many other wonderful places to hike to explore throughout the area, with lots of trails through beautiful scenery to explore. Not sure your vehicle's up to it?
